Head hunted to form an integral part of the elite Marketing Campaigns team at Manchester’s first ever tourism agency, while studying business and languages at Salford University. Engaged to support this newly founded groundbreaking agency as it partnered with Council to promote the UK’s *true capital* as a tourism and business destination. Managing complex stakeholder relationships and the provision of print, billboard, tv and press campaigns promoting venues, businesses and events nationally and internationally. A position that nurtured my love of writing and saw me swiftly progress to senior management with a strong focus on agency side communications that culminated in the city securing the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
The Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester
Essentially a lunar space craft set down in a Grade II listed building in the centre of Manchester! As a direct result of the above handling of complex stakeholder relationships I was approached by one of them – the RET – to program manage the corporate sponsorship and business development elements of their fundraising division. A role where sophisticated communication is key and a daily exercise in selling with absolute subtlety. From unearthing and nurturing new business leads to event managing major fundraisers, I rebranded the theatre as a corporate entertainment venue by promoting each season in alignment with the CSR strategies of secured and prospective sponsors and investors.
JWT Specialized Communications
Project Managing quantitative and qualitative research assignments, from questionnaire development to report writing for the WPP agency JWT. I carved out a niche here, interpreting lengthy technical data into expressive story telling text for internal stakeholders to shape their clients’ marketing campaigns with. Essentially the interpreter between statistician and account manager and the bridge between marketer and consumer, this was the era in which I first honed my skill for tailoring tone to specific markets.
Contract Content Creation
With contracts spanning multiple industries my current workload is the result of targeted networking, prioritised relationships and the subsequent word of mouth referrals this level of relationship management ultimately reaps 💅🏿
Today you’ll find me writing:
**Email marketing content for finance and IT clients, investor and ASX communications for a PR client, web content for small business owners and thought leadership articles for the construction, wellness, consultancy and events/exhibition industries.
**Product descriptions for food and beverage clients, industry award applications for legal and educational clients and product and service case studies and white papers for IT & manufacturing clients.
**A mix of both long and short form copy for multiple projects across multiple timezones, consistently working within creative parameters of varying rigidity, and to tight international deadlines.
As a general rule the content I’m commissioned to write naturally progresses to communicating my clients’ messaging on their social media platforms.
With a focus on aesthetic, voice, strategy and manageability I have formulated a product that incorporates set up, content creation, curation, planning, workshopping handover and support. It’s an exercise in tailoring my voice to speak to each customer profile, curating content to suit each platform, and fine tuning the aesthetics to engage each community.
A neat mix of my marketing and writing expertise put to good use in the fluid landscape of communications in the era of Social Media.
I take great pride in balancing paid projects with passion projects and these currently include the #GrandPairRents expat home swap Facebook community I founded in 2013; and the #PrettyCitySydney community I founded in alignment with this – a nod to my tourism marketing roots and a celebration of my love for this city.
Note my work ethic as a small business owner ^ because it’s up there with the skillz of a circque du soleil grade plate spinner!!
